Environmental Impact Report
With over 38 malls in the United States, Westfield Corporation is one of the country’s preeminent shopping center developers and a leader in the retail industry. Its Valley Fair mall straddles the borders of San José and Santa Clara and boasts an impressive 273 unique retailers and nearly 1.5 million square feet of gross leasable area.
Valley Fair has grown steadily from its humble beginnings in the mid-1950s. In 2007, DJP&A prepared an Environmental Impact Report (EIR) for a 650,000 square foot expansion of the mall and construction of associated parking structures. In 2013, we completed an Addendum to that EIR for an application to modify which structures would be demolished, allow for construction of a six-story, 3,221-stall parking structure with rooftop solar panels, and erect a 60-foot tall electronic programmable sign that would be visible on surrounding roadways.
The 2007 Environmental Impact Report was prepared by DJP&A, and the Addendum by Principal Project Manager Akoni Danielsen. In each instance, our staff’s familiarity with both the Cities of San José and Santa Clara, as well as the entitlement history of the Westfield Valley Fair site, avoided unnecessary, duplicative analysis and costs.
