Whole Foods Market (The Alameda) | City of San José

Initial Study

In December 2014, Whole Foods Market opened one of its most unique locations in California on The Alameda in San José. With food and grocery options, outdoor seating for 200 people, a coffee and juice bar, a microbrewery, and an upstairs taproom (with weekday happy hours), this Whole Foods Market has become a local community gathering spot.

DJP&A prepared an Initial Study for the 2.2-acre project site that analyzed the removal of trees on-site and the demolition of five structures, four of which were determined to qualify as Structures of Merit on the San José Historic Resources Inventory. Traffic impacts related to existing and planned high density residential development, commercial/retail uses, and industrial uses in the surrounding neighborhood were also discussed. All potentially significant environmental impacts resulting from construction of the proposed project were mitigated to a less than significant level. The Whole Foods Market is centrally located within walking distance of the Guadalupe Gardens, Diridon Station, and SAP Center.
