Meekland Avenue Bridge and Roadway Improvements Project | County of Alameda

In 2023, the County of Alameda approved the Meekland Avenue Bridge and Roadway Improvements Project. The project involved replacement of an existing bridge over San Lorenzo Creek in unincorporated Alameda County near the City of Hayward, replacement of existing sidewalks along Meekland Avenue between East Lewelling Boulevard and Blossom Way, and installation of raingardens and landscaping trees throughout the corridor. The new bridge will be a single-span and will accommodate two travel lanes plus Class II bike lanes, raised sidewalks, and vehicle barriers. DJP&A worked with Caltrans Local Assistance and ACPWA to complete the environmental review for the project consistent with the requirements of NEPA and CEQA.

Key environmental issues associated with the project included biological resources, community/land use impacts, cultural resources, hazards and hazardous materials, noise, and hydrology/water quality. The project was designed to avoid significant effects on the environment and qualified for Categorical Exclusion/Exemption under NEPA and CEQA.
