In Memoriam of Julie Maria Angelina Wright (1978 – 2020)
With profound sadness, David J. Powers & Associates, Inc. mourns the passing of our beloved colleague, Julie Wright, on December 2, 2020 after a courageous multi-year battle with cancer.
For the past 20 years, we have had the privilege and pleasure of working with Julie, not only because of her professional skills and accomplishments, but because of the enthusiasm, joy, and optimism that defined her essence. There was no challenge or hurdle, professional or personal, that Julie did not meet with class and grace. She taught all of us what it means to be a friend and those she mentored were the recipients of her compassionate guidance. Public- and private-sector clients alike benefited from her care and diligence and there are many facilities in the community that were constructed with Julie’s assistance.
Our founder, Dave Powers, was fond of reminding everyone that the company’s employees are the key to its success. Immediately upon interviewing Julie in 2000, Dave announced with great excitement that she would be a perfect addition to the DJP&A family. His pronouncement was both prophetic and an understatement! All of us who knew Julie were the beneficiaries of her love and care, we will be forever grateful.

David J. Powers & Associates, Inc. was founded in the City of San Jose in 1972 by David Powers, following the adoption of the California Environmental Quality Act in 1970. For the past 48 years, DJP&A has provided professional consulting services to public agencies and private developers in all areas of environmental planning. The company has slowly grown over the years from a one person company and sole proprietorship to a 22 person, employee-owned corporation. The DJP&A employees are all dedicated to continuing the spirit and quality of service that David Powers started in 1972.
The quality of our environmental review documents has always been the focus of the firm and is paramount to the success of DJP&A. DJP&A has successfully completed environmental review documents on a wide variety of projects: General Plan updates for cities throughout the Bay Area, numerous large industrial and commercial redevelopment projects, airports, wastewater treatment plants and pipelines, solid waste and recycling plants and programs, sports arenas and ball fields, large parks, trails, community centers, city halls and plazas, hospitals and medical centers, residential development from high-rise condominiums to single family detached, shopping malls and “big box” retail, and coastline and Bay front development. With each project, DJP&A strives to prepare clear, easy to understand documents that are legally defensible and useful to both the Lead Agency and the public.
Dave passed away unexpectedly on July 13, 2008 of apparent heart failure. He was 61. Everyone who knew Dave understood what a truly exceptional person he was. Known for his honesty, integrity, caring, generosity, enthusiasm, friendliness, as well as his unassuming and overall down-to-earth nature, Dave was always willing to lend a helping hand.
We all miss him terribly. As an ongoing tribute to Dave, we carry on his vision for the company and the ideals he has implanted in our daily operations.
