We are deeply saddened by the loss of our dear friend, mentor, and company founder, Dave Powers. Dave died unexpectedly on July 13th of apparent heart failure. He was 61.

Everyone who knew Dave understood what a truly exceptional person he was. Known for his honesty, integrity, caring, generosity, enthusiasm, friendliness, as well as his unassuming and overall down-to-earth nature, Dave was always willing to lend a helping hand.

Dave founded David J. Powers and Associates, Inc. in 1972 based on his vision of providing objective and thorough environmental review, excellent client service, and completing "a day's work for a day's pay." Dave was passionate about sound land use planning and high quality environmental review. As an ongoing tribute to Dave, we will carry on his vision for the company and the ideals he has implanted in our daily operations. But, we will all miss him terribly.

A memorial service to celebrate Dave's life will be held on Sunday, July 27, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Oaks at Oak Hill Memorial Park, 300 Curtner Avenue, San Jose.

An endowment for an annual scholarship has been established in Dave's name at San Jose State University for students in the biology, environmental studies, and urban planning departments. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the endowment. Checks should be made payable to The Tower Foundation of San Jose State University, noting on the check In memory of David J. Powers.
